Interesting Fact Goes Here

All aboard for a smoke-free Britain!

July 2007

Want to quit smoking? Then hop onboard a new addition to Southend’s High Street!

SmokeBUSters – a ‘smoke-free’ double-decker Routemaster bus – is going to be parked outside of The Royals Shopping Centre, itself another keen exponent of the new smoking ban.

The bus is in place, to help spread the word about the smoking ban, not just with the general public, but with local businesses too, giving people all the information they need to ensure they can breathe a little easier.

The Royals itself has had a countdown clock to mark the approach of the countrywide ban of smoking in public spaces, which came into force on 1st July. The Centre actually went completely smoke-free on 1st May, two full months ahead of the change in the law and the response to this has been very positive.

Dawn Jeakings, Centre Manager, said: “The reaction to the ban has been really positive and everyone is respecting the new rules at The Royals, although we will obviously continue to make sure everything runs smoothly as the national ban begins to take place.”

It is expected that 2007 will be a key year for smokers looking to kick the habit, with over 600,000 likely to quit as a direct result of the ban.
